JENNA COSGROVE APPOINTED AS ASSISTANT COACH FOR MACCABI USA’S OPEN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THE 20th WORLD MACCABIAH GAMES
Philadelphia, PA, July 11, 2016 – Sherry Levin, Open Women’s Basketball Head Coach for Team USA at the 20th World Maccabiah Games, has tabbed Jenna Cosgrove to be the Assistant Coach of Team USA’s Open Women’s Basketball team in Israel, July 4-18, 2017. Team USA’s Open Women’s Basketball team members will be part of the overall 1,200+ member USA Team at the 2017 World Maccabiah Games.
Cosgrove, who played NCAA Division III Basketball at Endicott College in Beverly, MA, is entering her third season as an Assistant Coach for Fordham University’s Women’s Basketball team, which competes in NCAA Division I. Prior to coaching, she served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Fordham University, coordinating all administrative duties with the Women’s Basketball program. This will be her first experience with Maccabi USA.
“I am so grateful and excited to work alongside Coach Levin, who has proven success at past Maccabiah Games, including two gold medals,” Cosgrove said. “I am looking forward to broadening my horizons and hope to be impactful on and off the court with the top female Jewish basketball players in the United States. I’d like to thank Stephanie Gaitley, my coach at Fordham, for recommending me for this position.”
Maccabi USA is seeking qualified Jewish athletes to represent Team USA in Basketball at the 20th World Maccabiah Games in the following divisions: Juniors Boys (Born 2001-2002) & Juniors Girls (Born 1999-2002), Youth Men (Born 1999-2000), Open Men & Women (ages 18-35), Masters Men (age 35+ & 45+) and Paralympic.
Tryouts for the Open Women’s Basketball team will take place July 30-31, 2016, in Ardsley NY.
The 20th World Maccabiah Games are the world’s third largest international sporting event and will consist of over 9,000 athletes from 75 countries participating in 42 different sports. To learn more about the sports and age divisions offered, please visit our website.
The World Maccabiah Games are more than an international sporting competition; they are a celebration of Jewish culture, unity and pride. ISRAEL CONNECT, Maccabi USA’s unique cultural and educational program, takes place for seven days prior to the start of the Games. All Juniors, Youth, Open and Paralympic athletes must participate in the program, where they have the opportunity to tour historical and religious sites, take part in cultural identity seminars and train with their teams, all while developing lifelong relationships.
