Today we feature Caroline Post, two time Maccabi USA alum at the 2009 and 2013 World Maccabiah Games. Read below to learn more about Caroline’s experiences with Maccabi USA both in and out of the water.
Over the course of two Maccabiah Games, Caroline Post won five gold medals and one bronze medal in the six Rowing events in which she competed! One would assume her athletic successes would encompass her most memorable experiences; rather, Caroline’s most memorable experience occurred at the 2009 Maccabiah Games, when she participated in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Ceremony. It was Caroline’s first Bat Mitzvah. “It was a beautiful sight to behold,” said Caroline. “The entire atmosphere was joyous and inspired pride.”
Caroline first became aware of Maccabi USA in 2008, when the Rowing coach for the 18th Maccabiah Games, a lifelong family friend, recruited Caroline to compete. Suffice to say, Caroline dominated the Rowing competition at the 18th Maccabiah Games, going undefeated, winning the gold medal in single sculls, double sculls, quadruple sculls and pair without coxswain.
Participating in four different events meant long days for Caroline. Every day she raced at least twice; sometimes she would race as many as four times! “It was definitely a mental challenge as much as a physical one,” exclaimed Caroline. “I had such an amazing time in 2009 that of course I didn’t hesitate to come back for the 2013 Games.”
To Caroline, the Maccabiah Games are so much more than the actual athletic competition; it’s all about the people. “We shared a hotel with the other Rowing teams, sharing breakfasts and dinners with rowers from all over the world,” remembers Caroline. “I still keep in touch with them, and look forward to seeing them all again soon.”
