We ...wish you all a happy 2nd Night of Hanukkah!
As we gather to celebrate Hanukkah, a time that reminds us of light, resilience, and faith, we do so this year with both full hearts and heavy ones.
We mourn the lives lost in the recent attack at Bondi Beach (including a member of our global Maccabi family) and hold their families, loved... ones, and the entire community in our thoughts and prayers. The memorial candle we light today alongside the Hanukkah candles stands in remembrance as a symbol of our collective grief, compassion, and refusal to let darkness define us.
Hanukkah teaches us that even a small flame can push back the darkness. In coming together as a community to pray, to light candles, and to support one another, we affirm the values that unite us: strength, solidarity, and hope.
May the lights of Hanukkah bring comfort to those who are hurting, honor the memories of those we have lost, and remind us of the power of standing together.
From Bondi Beach to Jewish communities around the world, we light these candles as one.
Chag Hanukkah Sameach – Happy Hanukkah
Sharing from @maccabiworld:
“💔🕯️Our hearts remain broken following the terror attack that struck a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach in Sydney yesterday.
Among those murdered was Dan Elkayam, 27, a French Jewish engineer who represented France and the Jewish community at... the 2022 Maccabiah Games. Dan loved nature, football, and Jewish communal life, and had joined the local Chabad community to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah. According to witness accounts, he tried to protect a young girl during the attack.
The entire Maccabi World Union family sends its deepest condolences and strength to Dan’s family, friends, and the Jewish community in Sydney. His memory will forever be part of the Maccabiah.
More Than Ever, we are committed to holding the next Maccabiah and showing the world the power of Jewish unity, resilience, and life.”
