ADAM GINSBURG APPOINTED AS THE HEAD COACH FOR MACCABI USA’S JUNIORS BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THE 20TH WORLD MACCABIAH GAMES
Philadelphia, PA, May 19th, 2016 – Steven Rosenberg, Juniors Boys’ Basketball Chairman of the USA Organizing Committee for the 20th World Maccabiah Games, has appointed Adam Ginsburg as Head Coach for Team USA’s Juniors Boys’ Basketball team. Ginsburg, the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Massachusetts, will lead a team of twelve athletes, born in 2001-2002, to compete in Israel, July 4-17, 2017. The World Maccabiah Games are the world’s third largest international sporting event, with over 9,000 total participants representing 75 countries. At the 19th World Maccabiah Games in 2013, Team USA’s Juniors Boys’ Basketball team won the silver medal.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to coach Team USA’s Juniors Boys’ Basketball team at the 20th World Maccabiah Games,” said Ginsburg. “Traveling to Israel to represent the United States in an international competition is a dream come true. I appreciate the full support of Coach Derek Kellogg [Head Men’s Basketball Coach, University of Massachusetts] to enable me to experience this special opportunity.”
Ginsburg joined the coaching staff at Massachusetts prior to the 2005-2006 season, making an immediate impact for the Minutemen, helping return the program to regional and national prominence. The Minutemen have made the postseason five times, advancing to the NIT Final Four in 2008 and 2012 as well as receiving a birth to the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament in 2014. His strong recruiting ability has led to the arrival of some of the best players from around the country as well as the top-ranked recruiting class for the 2016-2017 season in the Atlantic-10 (A-10) Conference. The program has recorded two Associated Press All-Americans, two A-10 Players of the Year, three A-10 Defensive Players of the Year, nine National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District picks and 12 All A-10 honors during his time on the coaching staff.
Basketball has been a lifelong passion for Ginsburg, who played throughout his youth. His first exposure to the Maccabi Movement came in 1991 at the JCC Maccabi Games, where he competed as a basketball player for the Suffolk Y JCC playing for Coach Marty Riger, where the team earned a gold medal. He returned to coach in the Maccabi Games for The Sid Jacobsen JCC from 1996-1999, winning a bronze medal in the first year.
A graduate of the University of Buffalo in 1997, Adam served as a Team Manager for the Men’s Basketball team. Upon graduation, former Buffalo Assistant and current member of Baylor Men’s Basketball’s staff, Tim Maloney, assisted Ginsburg to land a Staff Assistant position with the Men’s Basketball team at the University of Florida, where the team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 1999. Prior to his arrival at Massachusetts, he also served as an Assistant Basketball Coach for four seasons at Northeastern University and two seasons at Towson University.
