Philadelphia, PA, June 19, 2008 – Preston Goldfarb, Head Coach at Birmingham-Southern, has been appointed the Head Coach for Maccabi USA’s Juniors Boys’ Soccer Team. The Team will compete at the 18th World Maccabiah Games in Israel, July 13 – 23, 2009.
Goldfarb brings many years of coaching experience to the USA Team. He is entering his 26th season at the Birmingham-Southern Men’s Soccer program. He has won 10 conference championships, seven conference tournament championships, and three regional championships (NAIA), and has appeared in the NAIA National Championship Tournament in five of the last six years Birmingham-Southern competed in the NAIA. Additionally, Goldfarb has developed many youth and adult soccer programs in Alabama such as the Mid-State Youth Soccer Organization, the largest youth soccer program in the state.
Preston’s son, Sean Goldfarb, a graduating senior from Birmingham-Southern and midfielder on the Men’s Soccer Team, has been appointed as the Assistant Coach for the USA Juniors Boys’ Team. Preston states, “This is our first time coaching together.? The greatest thing in life was to coach my son in college, but to be able to coach alongside him is the ultimate!”
Preston is thrilled with the prospect of coaching the Juniors Boys’ Soccer Team. When asked how it feels being appointed to represent the USA Maccabiah Team, he replied, “I feel elated! It’s possibly the highest honor received in any sport to be able to coach a U.S. Team in international competition.” Preston and Sean both share the same goals for their team: to be competitive, work hard, and to bring home the gold medal.

The World Maccabiah Games are a quadrennial event that takes place in Israel.? The 18th World Maccabiah Games, scheduled for July 13 – 23, 2009 will be the world’s third largest international athletic competition.?
