“I was delighted and honored when Bruce Fleisher volunteered to coach the USA Open Golf Team,” said Turret. “Bruce is an invaluable member of both the PGA and Champions Golf Tours and his professional golfing achievements are well known. Bruce is a wonderful person and has a history with the Maccabiah as a player and coach and we believe he will influence and enhance our already high expectations for the team.”
Fleisher, who is the third youngest player to win the U.S. Amateur (1968), turned pro in 1969 – the same year he participated in the 8th Maccabiah Games in Israel, where he won a gold medal. He has gone on to pursue an illustrious career on the PGA and Champions Golf Tours and will bring his wealth of experience to coach the team to their highest potential.
“Going back to Israel to represent the USA at the World Maccabiah Games is truly an honor,” Fleisher said. “After playing professionally, I really feel, it is my time to give back. I know it will be a tough competition, but I hope to guide the team to the winners circle. I am also looking forward to experiencing the ISRAEL CONNECT cultural and educational program with the Team, because this competition is about more than just winning, it’s about connecting with other Jews and the State of Israel.”
