DENA MADDEN APPOINTED AS HEAD COACH OF MACCABI USA’S JUNIORS & YOUTH TENNIS TEAM FOR THE 14TH PAN AMERICAN MACCABI GAMES
Philadelphia, PA, December 11, 2018 – William Gurevich, Juniors & Youth Tennis Chair for 2019 Pan American Maccabi Games, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dena Madden as Head Coach of the Juniors & Youth Tennis Team for the 14th Pan American Maccabi Games. The Games will take place July 5-15, 2019 in Mexico City, Mexico. Madden currently serves as Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Merrimack College in North Andover, MA.
“I am honored to be apart of the Pan American Maccabi Games and represent Team USA in Mexico City” said Madden. “We will be putting together a great group of athletes to compete at the highest level of Junior Tennis. This is an opportunity for both the athletes and I to reach both individual and team goals.”
Madden begins her third season as Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Merrimack College. She was named the 2018 NE10 Coach of the Year in October and guided the program to a berth in the NE10 Championship match – the first time the program has reached the final match since 2014. In the 2017-18 season, Madden guided the Warriors to their second Northeast-10 Championship, finishing the year with a 9-6 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the NE10. She owns a 12-9 overall record during her tenure including a 7-5 NE10 ledger in 2017. The Warriors ended the 2017-18 season with a victory over Division I Holy Cross, Madden’s first against a DI opponent. During the 2016-17 year, Madden led the Warriors to their fourth straight season with at least 10 victories. She is certified Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) instructor and still plays competitive tennis, playing in the USTA Mixed Doubles National Championship in both 2014 & 2016; in 2014 her team from New England placed third in the country. Prior to Merrimack, she spent time at American University, St. Bonaventure University, and the University of Massachusetts over the span of seven years.
The Pan American Maccabi Games are a high-level athletic competition for Jewish athletes all over the world aimed at connecting Jews from the Diaspora. They are hosted by the Confederacion Latinoamericana Maccabi (CLAM) and conducted in cooperation with Maccabi World Union. They are held every four years, two years after the Maccabiah is held.
Maccabi USA is seeking qualified Jewish tennis players to represent Team USA in Tennis at the 14th Pan American Maccabi Games in Juniors & Youth Division (birth years 2001-2004). Eligible applicants should visit maccabiusa.com to apply.
