“I have a great appreciation for the Maccabi Movement and was fortunate to be a Maccabiah athlete twice. I enjoyed a great basketball experience, but more importantly an exceptional cultural experience,” Schayes said. “I look forward to going to Israel again and sharing the trip with the entire USA contingent. The energy around the [Maccabiah] Games is tremendous, befitting its place as one of the world’s premier multi-sport events. It is even more special as a cultural event.”

Schayes is looking to recruit the best male basketball athletes that are 35 years of age and older for his team.  Tryouts have been scheduled for September 8th & 9th in the Metro New York area.  Any interested candidates must first apply for the team at maccabiusa.com.

“We are thrilled to have Danny on board as Head Coach for our Masters Men’s Basketball Team,” said Jeff Bukantz, General Chairman of the USA 19th Maccabiah Organizing Committee. “He brings a tremendous amount of experience to the Team and we are all looking forward to a highly competitive Masters Basketball competition.”
