Seventeen-year-old artistic gymnast Sophie Knapp will be embarking on a trip to Israel for her second Maccabiah. This summer, however, she’s returning from a shoulder injury sustained four years ago that left her unable to compete on the bars apparatus.

Returning to competition isn’t ...the only thing that Knapp is eagerly awaiting in Israel. She is especially looking forward to meeting people from different countries, just as she did during her first Maccabiah in 2022.

Maccabi Media’s Josh Markowitz sat down with Shane Carr to uncover the heartfelt journey of bringing the close-knit spirit of camp to the global stage as Senior Director of Programs for Maccabi USA and the lead professional for the 2026 Maccabiah.

Long before joining Maccabi USA, Shane ...Carr’s sense of purpose was deeply shaped by his Jewish summer camp experience, his nearly decade-long tenure with the Union for Reform Judaism, and a transformative semester at Tel Aviv University. Drawing from this foundation, he decided to move from URJ to Maccabi USA, where these influences became central to his role.

In a post–October 7th world, showing up means more. Standing together means more. Being proud means more.

The Maccabiah Games remind us that no matter where we come from, we are one people, connected by history, identity, and a shared future.

More Than Ever, we show up with ...pride.
More Than Ever, we build community.
More Than Ever, we stand with Israel.
