MACCABI USA ANNOUNCES TEAM TO COMPETE AT THE 13TH PAN AMERICAN MACCABI GAMES IN CHILE

 

Philadelphia, PA, December 15th, 2015– Lou Moyerman, General Chairman, 13th Pan American Maccabi Games USA Organizing Committee, announced the appointment of Team USA.  He is excited to lead the delegation for these Games, which take place from December 27, 2015-January 4, 2016.  More than 2,500 Jewish athletes from 22 countries will attend.

Team USA consists of 314 athletes on 33 teams in Open, Juniors, Youth and Masters divisions competing in 14 sports: Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Chess, Field Hockey, Futsal, Golf, Gymnastics, Judo, Rugby, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball.  The remainder of the Team is comprised of Coaches, Managers and Medical Staff.

Team members reside in 32 states plus the District of Columbia and Sweden, including AL [1], AZ [6], CA [60], CO [7],  CT [4], DC [3], FL [24], GA [7], IL [12], IN [1], LA [2], MA [11], MD [18], ME [1], MI [3], MN [4], MO [2], NC [2], NH [2], NJ [29], NY [48], OH [9], OR [1], PA [27], RI [1], SC [2], Sweden [1], TN [3], TX [7], UT [1], VA [11], VT [1], WA [1] and WI [2].  Some are student-athletes at various NCAA colleges and universities, including Ball State University, Bucknell University, Colby College, Columbia University, Princeton University, St. John’s University, Swarthmore College, Tufts University, University of Rochester, University of Vermont, Wittenberg University and Yeshiva University.

“It is very important for the American Jewish community to support our Maccabi family in Chile,” Moyerman says. “We will build Jewish pride through sports as well as through three community service projects, including a food drive, hospital visits, and free eye examinations and glasses for over 1,000 Chilean children. Our delegation can’t wait to fill the air with sportsmanship and camaraderie.”
