MACCABI USA ANNOUNCES THE JUNIORS BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THE 14TH PAN AMERICAN MACCABI GAMES

Philadelphia, PA, April 16, 2019 – Maccabi USA Basketball Co-Chairs Barak Bar Cohen and Howard Levy, along with Head Coach Rob Weingard and Assistant Coach David Zimmerman are pleased to announce the Juniors Boys’ Basketball Team for the 14th Pan American Maccabi Games which will take place July 5-15, 2019 in Mexico City, Mexico. Maccabi USA will bring a team of 400+ athletes who will join the other 2,500 Jewish athletes from 19 countries, participating in 24 different sports.

Head Coach Weingard is an American former basketball player known for his college career at Hofstra University. He represented the USA delegation at the 1985 Maccabiah Games, as team captain of the Open Team, helping them to win a gold medal and once again in 1989, helping the Open Team win a silver medal. Assistant Coach Zimmerman is the current Athletic Director and Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at the Yavneh Academy of Dallas. His previous stints were at Southern Methodist University, St. Marks School of Texas, and Episcopal School of Dallas. The athletes are Quentin Alterman of Atlanta, GA; Joshua Bernstein of North Miami, FL; Tal Breiman of Brookline, MA; Jackson Cronin of Great Neck, NY; Henry Glickman of Los Angeles, CA; Max Hattem of Boca Raton, FL; Jaron Holzer of Sandy Springs, GA; Charlie Levy of Weston, CT; Jason Prager of Frisco, TX; Benjamin Rael of Dallas, TX; Jensen Weingard of Port Washington, NY; and Joshua Wolf-Bloom of San Jose, CA.

The Games are hosted by the Confederacion Latinoamericana Maccabi (CLAM). They are conducted in cooperation with Maccabi World Union and are held every four years, two years after the Maccabiah is held. The Pan American Maccabi Games are a high-level athletic competition for Jewish athletes all over the world aimed at connecting Jews from the Diaspora.

Maccabi USA builds Jewish pride through sports, generating the emotional intensity, high ideals, and powerful camaraderie of competition.  We connect athletes, volunteers, and supporters with the global Jewish community.  Our athletic, educational, and cultural experiences build Jewish identity, perpetuate Jewish continuity worldwide, and strengthen support for the State of Israel.
