MACCABI USA ANNOUNCES THE JUNIORS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THE 15th EUROPEAN MACCABI GAMES

Philadelphia, PA, May 30, 2019 – Maccabi USA Basketball Chair Adam Chaskin along with Head Coach Sherry Levin and Assistant Coach Glen Coblens are pleased to announce the Juniors Girls’ Basketball Team for the 15th European Maccabi Games which will take place July 28-August 7, 2019 in Budapest, Hungary. Maccabi USA will bring a team of 200+ athletes who will join the other 2,000 Jewish athletes from 29 countries, participating in 22 different sports.

Head Coach Levin is currently the Head Coach of the Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team at Worcester Academy in MA. She is a seven-time alumnus of Maccabi USA, having participated as both an athlete and Head Coach, leading the Juniors Girls’ Basketball Team and Open Women’s Basketball Team to gold medals at the 19th and 20th Maccabiah Games in 2013 and 2017. She also led the Open Women’s Basketball Team to a gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Maccabi Games. Assistant Coach Coblens has 30 years of coaching experience at youth, high school, college, professional and international levels, winning three gold, two silver and one bronze medal in international competition. He is the founder of PDX Hoops, the premier youth training program in the Portland metro area. The athletes are Angelina Barokas of Mercer Island, WA; Daniella Bessler of Brookline, MA; Hannah Binder of Holland, PA; Jaclyn Feit of Charlotte, NC: Sophie Gerber of Scottsdale, AZ; Adara Groman of Hopkinton, MA; Julia Kreider of Doylestown, PA; Gabrielle Kupferman of Houston, TX; Adira Orbach of Stamford, CT; and Daniella Rothman of Woodmere, NY.

The European Games are a high-level athletic competition for Jewish athletes all over the world aimed at connecting Jews from the Diaspora. They are hosted by the European Maccabi Confederation and conducted in cooperation with Maccabi World Union. They are held every four years, two years after the Maccabiah is held.
