MACCABI USA ANNOUNCES THE MASTERS MEN’S FASTPITCH SOFTBALL TEAM FOR THE 20TH WORLD MACCABIAH GAMES
Philadelphia, PA, May 22, 2017 – The Maccabi USA Masters Softball Chair Mike Goldman, along with Head Coach Tony Kahan and Player/Assistant Coach Billy Frank are pleased to announce the Masters Men’s Fastpitch Softball Team for the 20th World Maccabiah Games, which will take place July 4-18, 2017 in Israel. Maccabi USA will bring a team of 1,100+ athletes who will be part of the 10,000 Jewish athletes from 80 countries, participating in 43 different sports.
The athletes are Fred Cohen of Deerfield, IL; Dan Cosgrove of Los Angeles, CA; Glen Davis of Boulder, CO; Billy Frank of Los Angeles, CA; Terry Goldberg of Holland, PA; Mike Goldman of Harrison, NY; Tony Kahan of Glenview, IL; Paul Rubin of Scottsdale, AZ; Gregg Shamberg of Highland Park, IL; Larry Silfen of Los Angeles, CA; Russ Snow of Carlsbad, CA; Jeremy Spear of Honolulu, HI; Martin Weiner of Los Angeles, CA; and Jeffrey Weisbrot of Blue Ash, OH. Mark Berman is Base Coach/Field Coordinator.
“The Master’s fastpitch team is made up of guys from all over the country who are determined to win a gold medal for Team USA” said Goldman. “We made it to semi-finals of NAFA qualifying tournament in Las Vegas last month and are poised to play at a peak level in Israel. Most have won gold medals playing Open or Masters fastpitch softball at previous Maccabiah Games. We are all excited to represent the USA in the coming games and will do what we can to bring back the gold!”
Since 1932, over 62,000 athletes have participated in the Maccabiah Games, in a celebration of Jewish Strength and Solidarity. Team USA’s success is not only measured by the medals won, but by the impact that the Maccabiah experience had on their lives as well as the friendships they formed.
