MACCABI USA ANNOUNCES THE OPEN AND MASTERS SWIMMING TEAMS FOR THE 14TH PAN AMERICAN MACCABI GAMES

Philadelphia, PA, May 20, 2019 – Maccabi USA Swimming Chair Alan Tresser along with Open Head Coach Robert Strauss is pleased to announce the Open and Masters Swimming Teams for the 14th Pan American Maccabi Games which will take place July 5-15, 2019 in Mexico City, Mexico. Maccabi USA will bring a team of 400+ athletes who will join the other 2,500 Jewish athletes from 19 countries, participating in 24 different sports.

Head Coach Strauss is the Co-Founder of Swim Gym, a swim school that enriches the lives of babies, toddlers, school-age children, teens, and adults to teach them how to be safer and stronger swimmers. It is a member of the Florida Gold Coast Swimming Club and participated in the 1972 Summer Olympics as a representative of Mexico. He participated at the Pan American Maccabi Games in Sao Paolo, Chile in 1966, as well as at the 1969 and 1973 Maccabiah Games. He served as Head Coach at the Pan American Maccabi Games in Uruguay in 1991 and in Argentina in 2007. The Open athletes are Emily Claridge of Pleasanton, CA: Samuel Gavrilov of Brooklyn, NY; and Peyton Lienhart of Willowbrook, IL.

The Masters athletes are Melinda Conley of The Woodlands, TX and Miriam Leitko of Willis, TX.

The Games are hosted by the Confederacion Latinoamericana Maccabi (CLAM). They are conducted in cooperation with Maccabi World Union and are held every four years, two years after the Maccabiah is held. The Pan American Maccabi Games are a high-level athletic competition for Jewish athletes all over the world aimed at connecting Jews from the Diaspora.
