RON CARNER RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT OF MACCABI USA

Philadelphia, PA, December 12 – At the Maccabi USA Annual Meeting on December 8 in Newark, NJ, Ron Carner, of Bridgehampton and New York, NY, was re-elected to a second four-year term as President of the organization. Along with Carner, a new slate of officers was also elected to lead Maccabi USA over the next four years.  They include: Jeff Bukantz, Parsippany, NJ – First Vice President; Leland Faust, San Francisco, CA – Vice President; Donna Orender, Jacksonville Beach, FL – Vice President; Jodi Reff, Rockville, MD – Vice President; Jeff Schulman, Burlington, VT – Vice President; Donald Kent,  New York, NY – Secretary; Ben Fox,  Norman, OK – Treasurer; and Marc Rosenberg, Short Hills, NJ – Associate Treasurer.

Maccabi USA utilizes Sports to Build Jewish Pride. With over 200 Board Members and countless laypeople, Carner’s leadership team will field the Team of Jewish athletes that will represent the USA at the 20th World Maccabiah Games in Israel – the world’s third largest international sporting event.  Athletes leave the Maccabiah with stronger connections to their Jewish Identity and the State of Israel. In July, Carner, the Maccabiah USA Organizing Committee and over 200 volunteers brought the largest delegation ever – 1102 strong – to participate in an International Olympic-sanctioned sporting event – the 19th World Maccabiah Games.

In addition to the Maccabiah, Carner and the volunteers at Maccabi USA will send Teams of qualified Jewish athletes to participate in the European Maccabi Games – July 2015 – and the Pan Am Maccabi Games –  December 2015. These International Maccabi Games provide additional opportunities to use Sports as a means to expose athletes to the Diaspora and connect with other athletes who have a shared Jewish Identity.

“To lead such a worthwhile project is both an honor and a privilege,” Carner said. “To be told so often by our athletes that the Maccabiah has been a “life-altering experience” and “the best time of my life” has made me proud to devote my time and energy to such a wonderful organization over the past 28 years.”
