Philadelphia, PA, February 12 – Stuart Greenberg, 19th Maccabiah USA Paralympic Chairman, is aggressively working to recruit qualified Jewish disabled athletes to compete at the 19th World Maccabiah Games in Israel in July. He is specifically looking for athletes to participate in Wheelchair Basketball, Hand Cycling, Half Marathon, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis.
Greenberg has worked with the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department for over 39 years. He was the Director of the Carousel House Recreation Center for People with Disabilities from 1992 – 2003 and has extensive experience working with athletes with disabilities. Greenberg organized the first Junior Wheelchair Basketball program in 1996 and continues to oversee it. Additionally, he was the Director of the Philadelphia Wheelchair Tennis Tournament from 1993 – 2008; the National Chairman for the 2004 Junior Wheelchair Basketball Nationals at St. Josephs University; and started the first summer Wheelchair Basketball League in Philadelphia in 1993, which continues to flourish today.
He has worked as a Health and Physical Education teacher for 16 years and has been a Basketball Official with the Philadelphia Public League, Friends League and Philadelphia Catholic League for over 25 years. Greenberg is also the Katie Kirlin Junior Wheelchair Tournament Director. His passion for wheelchair sports will make him a great asset in assisting those athletes so that they have an incredible experience at the Maccabiah Games.”
