Philadelphia, PA, April 19 – Sherry Levin, Chair, 19th Maccabiah USA Juniors Girls’ Basketball, announced the appointment of the Team.  Levin, who is the Head Basketball Coach at the Beaver Country Day School, will serve as the Head Coach and will be assisted by Leah Lipschitz.

Levin has led her Team to an undefeated season, 25-0, and captured the Eastern Independent League Championship and the New England Class C Title. Lipschitz is the Head Coach for the Mount Ida College Women’s Basketball team.  This very skilled coaching team will be working with an extremely talented group of young women.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to coach such an outstanding group of young ladies,” Levin said. “Not only are we fortunate to have such a talented team, each athlete is excited about spending time in Israel and sharing their Jewish Heritage with athletes from around the world.”

The athletes are: Tara Berger of Purchase, NY; sisters Madison and Marissa Cannon of Bethesda, MD; Sorelle Cohen of Beverly Hills, CA; Drew Edelman of Sunnyvale, CA; Madison Etkins of Marlton, NJ; Jacqueline Lavitt of Rye Brook, NY; Rachel Plotke of Woodbridge, CT; Elizabeth Schlissel of Poughkeepsie, NY; Allison Silfen of Rye Brook, NY; Erica Stein of Westport, CT; Shelby Zucker of Scarsdale, NY; and Marcia Zimmerman – Team Manager – of West Newton, MA.

Some of the athletes’ recent accomplishments include: Drew Edelman, who has committed to USC in the fall, led her Menlo High School team to the Division 4 Central Coast Championship and she was honored by the Northern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame this January; Shelby Zucker, who will play for Emory in the fall, scored her 1,000th point this season; Allison Silfen, who will play for Bowdoin this fall, also scored her 1,000th point this season and was named to the 2013 Basketball Coaches Association of New York’s Top 50 Players (girls); and Rachel Plotke led her Hamden Hall team to win the New England Class D Title.
