WARREN RUSS APPOINTED AS HEAD COACH FOR MACCABI USA’S OPEN MEN’S SOCCER TEAM FOR 20th WORLD MACCABIAH GAMES

Philadelphia, PA, April 26th, 2016 – Maccabi USA has appointed Warren Russ, Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW), as the Head Coach for the USA’s Open Men’s Soccer team for the upcoming 20th World Maccabiah Games Israel, July 4-17, 2017. More than 9,000 Jewish athletes will compete from 75+ different countries.

In his ninth year at GSW, Warren’s teams have been honored as one of the Peach Belt Conference’s (PBC) most academically-recognized programs, with a player having been elected to a PBC All-Academic team in every season since his hire. Warren is also a two-time Maccabi USA Soccer coaching alumnus, having served as the Assistant Coach for the Open Men’s Soccer team at the 2013 World Maccabiah Games, where the United States won their first-ever gold medal in the Open Men’s Soccer division. He acted as the Head Coach for Maccabi USA’s Open Men’s Soccer team at the 2015 Pan American Maccabi Games as well.

Mark Knue, Overall Soccer Chairman of Maccabi USA’s Organizing Committee for the 20th World Maccabiah Games, is excited that Warren Russ will be the Head Coach.

“I am very pleased to announce that Warren has agreed to accept the position as Head Coach of our Open Men’s Soccer team, “says Knue. “Warren knows what Maccabi USA and the Maccabiah Games stand for, and we are excited that he will be leading our team in Israel in Summer 2017.”
